Love of Siam

Two young boys are best friends living quiet family lives in Bangkok. Their lives are disrupted when one boy's older sister goes missing on a jungle trip. The shattered family moves away, separating the boys. Years later, now in their late teens, the boys meet again. One of them is now the leader of an aspiring boy band whose managing assistant bears a striking resemblance to the lost sister. The boys must deal with their family and their social lives
highly acclaimed, currently a 8.7/10 on IMDB.

ENGLISH SUBS Needed (so far, only thai ones) - Would someone be willing to make them/upload them for either this (1.31 gig AVI)  or the DVD?

I'm willing to translate & make subtitles for this movie but I don't know how to do it.  Could you teach me?  I want to share this with my friends who don't speak Thai.  Thank you!  :)

wow...thanks... .but, I do not know how to compose original subtitles.
I can work with a template once one is already in place.  Actually, I might be able to do it if
I used an existing template and just watched the movie but I would not know what they are saying.   Someone has to actually do a good AVI burn for a 2 part CD or 1 part CD. I think the film is too long for one part.
Let me do some more research and maybe we can do this.
I have only found website with this movie on it and they had it in 3 VCD's or one DVD-R. The one that you purchase I hear does not a have the subtitle either. Where did you find your copy of the movie. (purchase or torrent?)

Thank you, jebpac.. Let's work on it!  I tried downloading some free program from here but it is too complicated to use.  I have no background on this subtitle thing, so if you do more research and can teach me how to do it, I can try.

I live in Bangkok so I just purchased the DVD from a store.  If you can split it into the necessary format that I can work on, I can send the DVD to you.  The DVD has Thai subtitle -- can we split and modify the existing?

Thanks again.  Hope we can do this soon.

I could probably put the subtitles on the VCD copy of it.  I think the DVD-R might be too difficult but I just don't know. I have never done this. If you send the movie, I could try and see if I can make a 700 or 800 mb file.

So, you have the store bought DVD from Thailand?  Is it the extended version of the movie? If not, then I will try and download the DVD-R from a website.

Are the Thai subtitle hard burned onto the movie or can you shut the subtitles off for the movie.?  So many questions. Probably by the time we get this figured out, someone else will have done this for us or they will have released an American version of the movie; however, I don't see any mention of a US or UK release.

If the DVD has subtitles, you could use tools like subrip (but not version 1.50 beta!) or vobsub to rip the subtitles from the DVD into a text file. (I don't know about Thai letters, that could be a problem. Even then, all you really need is the correct time codes for your translation; a template you could call it) Then "all" you would have to do is translate it, either by using only the Thai subtitle text or by using the film (that could be a DIVX of 700MB), load it into subtitle workshop. It will make the translation comparatively easy, you watch a few seconds of the film, then type in the translation.....

Good luck!

Thank you Jebpac & Rogard.  I have both VCD and DVD of this movie.  Both of them are the original version (150 mins).  The Director's Cut has not been released in Thailand yet (I heard it's over 4 hours!).  The set of extended version comes with a wooden doll so I think it's delayed because of the doll production.  :)  At first I thought the DVD would have English subtitles, but it only has Thai.  The subtitle is not hard burned on the movie, so we can probably rib it as Rogard suggested.

So, I'll do some homework and try subrip or vobsub.  Thanks Rogard for the tips.  It still sounds difficult for me but I will try. :)

Now that sounds like an ....interesting film.4 hours director's cut?? With a wooden doll??? Dudes...

As you like it. :-)

Would you please use private messages or email to talk about sending films...this is not the right place for those things. Good luck, and keep us posted how it goes...

Cheers

can anyone rip and upload me just the thai subtitles for this? thanks if anyone can!

well, I think that ppp1 should be able to do it. I think I am the only one from the USA here. Everyone else seems to be able to purchase the movie in DVD format.  I am happy to get the DVD and break it down into an avi but I will still need someone to tell me who is saying what in english translation.  yeah, this does sound like fun.  I will see if I can purchase a DVD online somewhere but anyone is more than welcome to mail it to me.

As for the VCD, I did view a copy of it but I did not like the quality so I deleted it. AND WHAT is this 'wooden doll' people are talking about.  I have yet to actually see the movie, so I guess this is something in the movie.  I have heard, even though it is 4 hours, the extended version is makes this a much more complete and coherent movie.  Has anyone the extended version???

well... no worries.  I have the avi version (it is two files of 700 mb) So, subtitles that I generate will only be for these specific files.  if someone wants to discuss about the translation, I am here and ready to make them if you want.

o crap... it is the VCD version.  someone helpwith DVD.... can't seem to purchase it on Amazon or find it anywhere else for that matter in the USA.  ;-(

I think can try to help to translate too if someone can send me the thai subtitles because i just ordered the movie but it will take a long time to ship and i do not have the ability to download it here.

Let me try to rip it using subrip or vobsub tonight.  Never done it before, but if it's successful, I will send it to you.  I can help you translate too, even the original version of the movie is quite long.  Thank you!

If subrip version 1.50 beta is not recommended, is version 1.2 OK to use, or what program would you suggest?  Thanks.
