I can insert the avi movie to my mac idvd for burning but unless the subtitles are harcoded I can't figure out how to add the downloaded subtitles to idvd.

I've downloaded subs for Bob le flambeur.  I've renamed them to match the film (already in idvd waiting to be burned) but no luck.  I can't drop them in or import them.  idvd doesn't recognize the fromat.

Any suggestions?  I've read the other posts but it seems I need an idiot proof step by step procedure.

 As far as I can see iDVD does not support .srt subtitles, but I'm not sure.

I think this might be exactly what you want.

ffmpegx seems to be freeware, and it can make a DVD out of an .avi and a .srt.
