How to watch an existing DVD on your PC with external subtitles

The easiest solution:

Play the DVD with Media Player Classic and load the subtitles from File->Load Subtitles.

 

In MPC (Media Player Classic) under View / Option / Playback / Output :

Check VMR9 Renderless or VMR7 Renderless on DirectShow video.

Click ok, then close and re-start MPC.

Start DVD with MPC, then load subtitle in MPC. Voilà!

You can also use your favorite player together with vobsub or ffdshow. Both allow for manual loading of subtitles together with whatever video you are playing.
