The Love of Siam - Discuss

I don't get the ending! Why does it end that way? When he asked his mom about making decisions.... didn't that mean that it was ok for him to do what he wants? Shouldn't it have ended differently? I am completely lost....

Hi incontacta:  WOW... I agree.  I was loving the movie and everything seemed like we would get a happy ending but when Tong says... what he says, I was floored.  Yes, I don't think it should have ended that way either because everything leading up to it made you think otherwise but, hey, I did not direct it.  However, it was beautifully done and I have to say it took me awhile to stop crying after the end of the movie. I just did not understand or expect the ending.  Hey, since it is so successful, maybe the will make LOVE OF SIAM 2 (II)

Incontacta, two other movies that have endings that are either shocking or you have to figure out "WHAT IS UP WITH THAT???!!!" are the following:

  THE KING AND THE CLOWN:

 BANGKOK LOVE STORY:

Cool thanks for the suggestions. Im glad im not the only one upset about the ending. It just.....did not make sense at all but oh well.

Keep in touch Incontacta.... do you have any movies you recommend.  I am from the USA and really appreciate foreign/asian/etc... cinema.  US cinema is so....what is the word... I don't know.. just worried about box office.  nothing of real content or meaning.  cheers mate !!

Did you used rogard's final subtitles for the movie?  If so, what did you think about them??  Do they clear up some of the dialogue in the movie?

Hey, Im from the US too. Ummm as for the subs I used the first initial batch that came out.....but I understood enough to get it....that plus i watched it two times through.....I can't bear another though. But, I wouldn't mind watching the 4 hour director's cut as maybe that would help clear up some of the ending.

I am sort of new to this genre. Very interesting as its really a different world. I know theres a korean film "No Regret" thats also of this sorta stuff, although in my opinion it was just graphic and not heavy on story.

As for american stuff, all I know about is Brokeback Mountain which i have yet to see myself so can't tell you anything about that one.

Really... what part of the US?  I am from Atlanta, Georgia. Well, they say the 4 hour Director's cut clears alot of stuff up but it still leaves a crappy ending.  I guess we all want things to have happy endings but when Mew starts crying at the end... I just lose it.  Such despair.  My entire question is, it looked like Tong was ready to accept a relationship like that and embrace it. I think Tong is the most understood character in the movie.  I am actually surpised that actor is up for an award because he appears emotionless and blank most of the movie.  You have no clue what he is thinking about?  Anywho, Brokeback Mountain is ok also... VERY VERY depressing ending.  Yes, quite a different world than we are all used to I suppose.  But you have to say, it does make for interesting movies and drama.  If I can find the director's cut of LOVE OF SIAM I am going to buy it online and recode it.  We may need this site again to figure out the subtitles. We are still waiting for ppp1's final copy of the subtitles.

Im at New York, NY. Wow that is surprising to hear that Tong is getting praise for his role.....I didn't really get him at all. Mid-way through he and Mew had their moment together and it seemed as if they both wanted it. I'm just thinking it was only done so because the director didn't want to label his movie as a complete gay love story but what the heck, most of the movie was already about it, might as well finish it. I'm anxious to get my hands on a copy of the director's cut but am also dreading to have to watch such a bad ending again.

I just watched Bangkok Love Story....maybe its just not the right time yet for these kinds of movies to have a happy ending cause it seems they all end like crap. Wish people would just be more open minded.

New York... wow... great !! Yeah, I rewatched it twice today and just can't figure out why the hell it ended the way it did... made no kind of sense.  Everything points to them being together... and when Tong is running to hear him sing, when he is smiling when the song is again actually being sung directly to him and when he runs through the crowd to catch up to Mew... and then you have to hear "I cannot be with you as your boyfriend. ".... WTF !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   I get so pissed and angry because it makes no damn sense. everything that happened in the movie did NOT lead up to that ending.  BUT, who am I. I have to agree with you. I have been reading some stuff on the net about the movie and the people in that country are either in love with the movie or they hate it because of the "gay" content.  Yes, open mindedness would be great but I do not think that will be something that happens in my lifetime but I have to say, we have come a long way. At least people with an alternative lifestyle have the ability to go places where they can live and love and be happy and not be looked at awkwardly.... like... New York, NY for instance ;-)

Don't get me started on Bangkok Love Story.  Holy hell.... If someone treated me that awful... I would not be hanging around to be further abused and I sure would not be waiting years for you to get out of jail.  Is that love or just stupidity??? your guess is as good as mine.

NOW, "Bungee Jumping on Their Own" ... is another movie that will just blow you the heck away.  The ending... all I will say is... when it was done... I was so sad... I was happy and crying and thinking about what it meant and it made you really think about what love is. It is a phenomenal movie.             hxxp://en.gay-torrents.net/torrent/33192

Let me know what you think...

Oh ..almost forgot...speaking of endings that just .... suck.... but overall, this is a pretty decent movie: below taken from Amazon... they just listed it and it is in stock !!

BOYS LOVE begins as conservative, young, magazine editor Akira Mamiya (Kotani Yoshikazu) sets out to profile teen model Kisaragi Noeru (Saito Takumi). Mamiya becomes taken with the young man while viewing his paintings. The two continue their interview over dinner, and dinner leads to an encounter in a restroom stall. A relationship develops between the usually straight-laced Mamiya and irresponsible pretty-boy Noeru. But it's a relationship fraught with peril. Jealous schoolmates, too much booze, random men, and the demands of career conspire to test whether a BOYS LOVE can survive.

Anyone had any luck buying the actual movie on DVD??  I am desperate for an OFFICIAL copy of the movie... (Thialand is screwing up big time with their poor marketing of this movie !!)

Ok, Bungee Jumping On Their Own was a bit weird for me. I couldn't get over the age difference. It just made it worse that he is a teacher and the other a student. I'll have to find time to watch everything else. Thanks again for all the suggestions.

As for the offical copy of the movie, might as well just wait until the director's cut is available and get that instead.

yeah, I know what you mean about the age differnce but if you look past that, it is about undying love that will find itself no matter what the circumstances. Well, we know that the younger guy was at least 17... it mentions that in the movie and lest we not forget that people in the past...actually recent past, used to marry off their daughters to a good supportive husband ... sometimes at the age of 13 or 14. (I am not condoning anything Incontacta, I am just stating, look past the age, look past the circumstances and look past the sex... which is what this movie is asking you to do, you will find LOVE)

I was devastated at the end of the movie but also delighted because of their hopes of finding each other again. I bet if you watch it a second time, you will be able to understand or appreciate it better. take care and have a great one !!!  keep in touch... I will let you know if I find anything else that might be interesting.

Did anyone get the Director's cut of Love of Siam yet?  IM or PM me if you did.  We want to work on subtitle file for this version of the movie also.
