i signed up on subscene just to say thank you to you for translationg and uploading these subs. they are perfect, and i do mean PERFECT! all the other subs were crooked english, they were really bad and i was sick and tired of them. Thank you once again!

    • 8/7/2009 1:08 PM

"Perfect"? Certainly not. Many sentences look suspiciously like a google translation from Spanish.

EDIT: Correction. Sorry my bad. The subtitle is okay. There were some spanish inverted question marks, but I guess the translator used a spanish subtitle for timing and forgot to remove them.In fact, I think it#s the best translation so far. Cheers.

No problem guys, it took me about eight hours, I just couldn't watch D13 Ultimatum like that.

And yeah, I did forget the exclamations and question marks, sorry 'bout that, I used a spanish sub for the timing  and translated it. Enjoy guys!

Haven't downloaded the movie yet, it's on its way ... but this seems to be by far the best sub - it's not "ad verbatim", but flows naturally in English - I mean, the subtitle is in English right!?!

(eg you wouldn't say "window-licking" but "window shopping", even if the slang in French is to lick windows!)

But it's not just the actual word here and there, it reads easily, flows well. So WELL DONE :)

Criticisms - spelling mistakes, OCR errors (or rather typos), those characters (leading i's, leading upsidedown question marks) as mentioned by rogard. Incorrect use of words (eg your vs you're, ow vs how, m ve me as in "excuse me" <-- search for it, it's all in there).Excessively long lines. Unevenly split lines eg 40chars then 10chars. Lines with breaks that don't need a break.

EDIT : forgot to mention, inappropriate capitals (especially after ... when resuming a dialog. Four, five or even six elipses when they should all be three. Lack of capitals at the start of sentences. Double spaces. Word's like DoN'T. and my fav, triple lines! And other syntax and grammar :) Did I ever mention I'm anally retentive? <-- these I have all fixed if you want me to upload an edited copy END OF EDIT

So .. very good sub/translation. I'll assume the syncing is great since it's pretty much identcal to the others.

I've done some (a lot really) of the stuff I've mentioned, but I haven't actually sat down and watched the movie yet or actually proof read the whole thing (I'd rather watch the movie first).

If you want me to upload my edited version of this excellent translation then PM me or reply to this thread and I'll do it, as long as everyne understandsit's not my usual super-high-inspected finished product yet.

      :)

PS - rogard ... say "hi" to ya mom for me <g>

mece77, I know how you feel. When Forbidden Kingdom came out as an R5 early release and there were no subpacks around, I got fed up with the "pidgin" english, terrible transcribing from people with two left ears. So I did it myself, line by line until I got it 99.999% perfect. I spent around 30hrs on it. So, thank you for your considerable effort :)

Wow Aequi, you wrote down exactly what i had observed....needless to say I'd be really grateful if you upload the corrected version.

And btw, being anally retentive is sometimes a good thing, keep it up!!

      Cheers

      Well, I did -> http://subscene.com/english/District-13-Ultimatum-AKA-B13-U-Banlieue-13-Ultimatum/subtitle-247249.aspx <--.. and it's already scored almost 200 downloads in 6 hrs :) Sweeet!

As for "corrected", yes .. final .. probably not. The real credit goes to mece77.

No problem dude by all means upload anything you want. I know the subs weren't actually perfect, I did cut some corners. But I'd just had 3 wisdom teeth removed and was on a butt load of Vicodin, I did the best I could, if ANYONE wants to fix'em or smooth out the rough edges or timing, by all means feel free to do so. Cheers guys! Good movie btw!

No problem, to use them, download BSPlayer or KMPlayer, both are free, KMPlayer comes with its own internal codecs. Play the movie with either of these media players and while playing, just drag and drop the sub file into the player. Make sure the player has subs enabled though, it's very simple. Enjoy.

download VLC media player from videolan.org/vlc

      1. put the sub and the movie file in the same folder and make sure that both files have the same name. then just play the movie file and the subs will load by themselves.

if 1 dont work try 2:

      2. play the movie file then drag and drop the sub file into VLC player and the subs should load.

if 2 dont work, try 3:

3: play the movie in vlc, right click on the screen then go to video > subtitles track > open file. then select the sub file and press ok.

I had gotten 19mins into the film with the original (ie, not these) subs playing - and I just had no idea what was going on. So, came on here, grabbed these and watched it again.

Ah! Now I can actually understand it. Thanks for the time you put into this.
